Around The Bay Melbourne 2015 Training
Continuing my training for Around The Bay Melbourne 2015 cycling.
I had recently upgraded my cross bike with sleek wheels, road pedals and cleat shoes. The bike since then disappeared for service for the upgrade for at least a month.
Now that my have my bike back I can certainly say how glad I am to have it in my possession again.
Practice with cleats
After installing cleats on the shoes, I was told to do some practice by putting it on and take it off while holding on to a wall. Once I was feeling a bit more comfortable with the process I decided to do small trips and learn to take it off and on during the ride. Funny enough as I came back home to stop I fell off as I couldn’t seem to get the cleat off haha.
Quick Trip to Collingwood Farm Cafe for Coffee
So excited to get my bike back that I need to also test out the new sleek wheels and cleat shoes by cycling to Collingwood Farm Cafe during the day for a short coffee trip on the 24th of June 2015. It felt really good with the new gears as I can definitely feel it going faster and less effort.
Little clip as I leave the cafe.
Long Trip to St. Kilda for Coffee
On Saturday the 27th of June 2015 which it last weekend I decided it’s time to take a ride to St. Kilda for coffee at Cafe Racer. It is about 30k from Bundoora via Darebin Creek and Yarra River.
It was a nice day with overcast weather, just a bit windy that I need to wear my Kathmandu jacket for wind protection. Along the way I saw my partner and the OLA Meetup group about to set off on their kayak trip.
During my ride along Church St. I had two near accidents when two vehicles nearly took me out as they merge over the bike lane. I also fell off twice during sudden stops as I couldn’t get my cleats off. On my returned I noted that it’s not best to clip on in busy traffic areas.
I made it to my coffee break in one piece before making my way back home on the same route.
